The Situation
SimplyBorrowed Inc. is a Canadian lending company serving citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and international students. Since 2016, the company had built a practical loan approval and administration operation based on firsthand experience with the immigration process.
Internally, much of their work was coordinated through Google Docs and spreadsheets, which acted as the central reference for loan requirements, approval steps, and internal checklists. They complemented this with specialized tools — DocuSign for contracts, ZumRails for payments, Certn for identity verification, and NetSuite for admin management.
The team understood their process well. Applications were reviewed carefully, decisions were human-led, and customers were supported through direct communication. The business was growing steadily.
But the operational model depended on manual coordination. Google Docs served as the system of record. The workflow was fragmented across tools with no central operational layer connecting them.
